A smile and a hug for Pete the Cat

Popular children books character Pete the Cat was a special guest Saturday during a “Go Wild in the Park” program at Waterworth Memorial Park. Children participated in a “story trail” along the park’s nature trail and a singalong concert was held featuring entertainer Chip Richter. Shown above giving Pete the Cat a big hug is smiling 5-year-old Mathilda May of Salem. The event was co-sponsored by the Salem Public Library and the Salem Parks and Recreation Dept. The popular Trail of Treats and Halloween Costume Contest will be held from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 29 at the nature trail at Waterworth Memorial Park.
