Classes at capacity in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA — Classes are at capacity at the South Side Middle School, and the Columbiana School District has seen an increase in open enrollment so far this year, Superintendent Don Mook said Tuesday.

Mook said several middle school classes are full and can not take any additional students, and that open enrollment has increased by about 64 students compared to last year for a total of 228 open enrollment students.

Overall enrollment for the district is currently at 1,021, he added.

He and elementary and middle school building principals Kim Sharshan and Jason Martin also said the district is working to raise donations and supplies for Hurricane Harvey Relief.

In addition, the district is working with the Leetonia School District on combined relief efforts, Mook said.

Martin said he is pleased to see all of the school districts in the county come together to provide aid to those affected by the hurricane.
