Festival draws near

A wooden statue of Johnny Appleseed stands like a sentinel in the Lisbon town square to welcome visitors as the village prepares for this weekend’s Johnny Appleseed Festival, which runs Saturday and Sunday. The statue was made several years ago by local chainsaw artist Fred Gromley. WKBN meteorologist Rich Morgan and Hot 101’s Kelly Stevens and A.C. McCullough will be in Lisbon Saturday for the festival. Morgan will be judging the apple pie baking contest at 4 p.m. at the gazebo, while Stevens and McCullough will serve as judges for the JAF parade in the morning. (Salem News photo by Tom Giambroni)
