Trustees approve police contract

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP–Township trustees Monday night approved a contract to provide police protection to Green Township.

Green Township trustees last month approved the new three-year contract for the Goshen Police District to continue police protection, reflecting a decrease in gas prices.

The contract, effective the first of the year, will remain the same cost the first year at $260,004 as the current contract. The final two years will increase by 3 percent to $266,508. There is also an optional fourth and fifth year that will increase by another 3 percent to $273,180.

Cost for fuel will be $9,744 annually, a decrease from the $13,000 in the previous contract when gas prices were over $4 per gallon. If the cost of gas increases to $3.50 or more per gallon, the cost for fuel will revert to the $13,000.

The contract also includes a clause that will require Green Township to pay a cost to be determined for each call in the township if the police department must begin paying for dispatching during the life of the contract.

Trustee Chair Bob McCracken said the contract must receive final approval from the Green Township trustees at their meeting Thursday night.

In other business, the trustees hired Mary Hrovatic of Washingtonville as part-time desk officer.

The next regular trustees meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the administration building.
