Levy, candidate forum planned in Knox Twp.

KNOX TOWNSHIP– Township residents are being invited to a forum/town hall event to meet the trustee candidates and learn about the levies–both local and statewide– on the November ballot.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Knox Elementary School.

On the ballot will be four candidates for two trustee seats–incumbents Gregg Carver and Ben Pidgeon along with Matt Johnston and Troy Kinser. Residents are also being asked to renew the township’s two fire levies–one each for the North Georgetown and Homeworth fire districts– and a road levy that will replace the current one.

The 1.5-mill roads and equipment levy will generate $129,500 annually and will cost residents the same amount as the current one. The difference between the two, however, is the proposed levy will be able to be used for more than just equipment, where the current one can only be used for equipment.

The fire levies at 1-mill for five years, with the Homeworth one generating $45,800 and the North Georgetown one $35,800 annually.

All four candidates are scheduled to be in attendance, as are township and fire department officials to speak about the levies. State Rep. Tim Ginter and a representative from U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson’s office will also be attendance to speak about Issues I and II.

Residents will be able to mingle with the candidates and representatives for approximately and hour. At approximately 8 p.m. the candidates and speakers will share their information then the floor will be opened to questions from residents.

Refreshments will be provided.

The event is being coordinated by local businessman Donovan Curfman, who owns Homeworth Feed and Grain.

“Residents seem to always be asking about the issues (at the mill),” Curfman said. “I didn’t have the answers, so I wanted to set something up where they could ask their questions directly to people who do know.”

Curfman encouraged residents to be knowledgeable for the election and take advantage of the information being provided in an informal atmosphere.

“This is a great opportunity for a small community like ours,” he said.
