Paint Cellar offers events in addition to supplies

Jen Walter opened Jen’s Paint Cellar last April and has developed a strong clientele for her creative workshops and the handmade merchandise she sells. Jen’s Paint Cellar, located at 1068 E. SALEM–With specialized experience in refinishing furniture, Jen’s Paint Cellar offers creative workshops for adults and children including Paint and Sip and birthday parties along with milk and chalk furniture paint and supplies, gifts and furniture.

Jen Walter started Jen’s Paint Cellar, at 1098 E. State St., right behind the AT&T store in April of 2016.

With two teenage boys, Niko and Sam, attending Salem schools, and working as a dental hygienist for three doctors, Walter loves creativity and looks to expand her hours from Tuesday and Friday, when she’s open for winter hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment.

Jen’s Paint Cellar occupies a large workshop-showroom, where hands-on instruction and creativity in making local homemade gifts actually takes place downstairs.

“I utilize two local woodworkers from Columbiana County,” she said, holding onto her little, less-than-a-year dog, Lola.

“I do many weekend appointments,” she said.

Supplies like chalk and milk colors, and gifts from local artisans are on display.

Her creative workshops include birthday parties for kids where one project is chosen and sip and paint events where a number of handmade works, like stenciled signs, are made.

For example, Jen’s Paint Cellar has custom, decorative bottle openers, wine and coffee cup holders and customized serving trays.

Comments on Jen’s Paint Cellar Facebook page give more of an idea of what customers can expect.

One customer wrote last March, “We held a mother/daughter party and it was a blast. The atmosphere was comfortable and very spacious.

“A large table for food and a large table for painting and a pretty couch to relax on. Jen assisted all of us with care and style.

“The moms transformed plain pine trays into incredibly high-end looking pieces. And the girls used their own taste and style to do something fun and colorful!

“Priced appropriately and totally worth more for the good time we had… hours of it …”

Another person who attended a workshop last October, said, “I had so much fun this evening with Jen. She was so helpful and I walked away with exactly what I wanted from her workshop.

“You are so easy to work with and it’s such a fun, laid back atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed tonight and am sure I will be back for more.”

Walter said, “I can teach and I can refinish furniture. I can teach them or I can do it for them … and I can make a project, like a bottle opener … I can do that as a custom order.”

Small custom orders take a week “to be safe,” she said, and larger orders, depending on what it is, will take longer.
