As a preventative measure, East Liverpool Mayor Ryan Stovall and Service-Safety Director Brian Allen decided on Tuesday to have a hillside area about the size of a football field cleared of trees and brush along the southbound lanes of state Route 11 south of the Route 170 exit in Calcutta. The Ohio Department of Transportation had been at the site earlier in the day prior to a slide in the afternoon, which followed an initial slide on Monday. Allen said this is to keep trees from coming down again onto the roadway after dark and possibly having someone hit them or be injured by them.
