South Range BOE will seek bids for old athletic field in North Lima

BEAVER TWP. –The South Range school board will seek bids for the former high school athletic field in North Lima.

The board Monday night agreed to seek silent bids for the Memorial Field complex behind the former high school, with the ability to reject any and all bids received. The field has not been used competitively since the 2016 football season and the weight room is no longer being used by the wrestling team.

The Memorial Field complex is no longer needed after the upgrades at the Rominger Sports Complex at the K-12 campus, according to schools Superintendent Dennis Dunham.

Treasurer Jim Phillips said the silent auction must be advertised for two consecutive weeks then wait 30 days before opening the bids. Dunham said he expects the board to be able to make a decision sometime in June.

In other business, the board approved a proposed policy change that eliminates the 10-day notice for public speaking at board meetings. Community members wishing to speak will still be restricted to a time limit.

Board President Corey Yoakam reminded community members that without prior notification of concerns, the board may need extra time to investigate the issue and respond at a later date.

Under personnel, the board granted a five-year administrative contract to James Phillips as treasurer through July 31, 2024; a two-year contract to Ryan Dunn as director of transportation through June 30, 2020; and a two-year contract to Jennifer Lucido as full-time EMIS/superintendent secretary through June 30, 2020.

The board also granted a full-time continuing classified contract to Lisa Brumbaugh; part-time continuing classified contracts to Brenda Donadee, Courtney Moore, Pamela Rhodes and Lisa Stilliana; and continuing teacher contracts to Ericka Burkey and Donee Feren.

Additionally the board hired Darlene Willoughby as sign language interpreter for 2018-2019 school year; accepted the resignations of Nicholas Haught as high school math teacher effective June 1 and bus aide Rachel Garcia effective April 8; and granted supplemental coaching contracts for the 2018-2019 school year to Paul Lindstrom for high school girls soccer, Daniel Yeagley for varsity football, Daniel Yeagley for weight training, Diane Krumpak for high school cross country and James Hanek for high school golf.

The board also granted permission for Mr. and Mrs. Gary Fitch to accompany their daughter, Amariah Fitch, to represent South Range High School at the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament on June 17 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Fitches will be transporting and chaperoning Amariah during her competition.

Prior to the meeting, the board observed a moment of silence for the recently deceased Ronald Rapp, a longtime resident, board member and businessman in the South Range district.
