Fashion show to raise funds for library

LEETONIA–The Friends of the Leetonia Community Public Library will sponsor a fashion show next month to raise funds for the library’s operation.

The friends group will sponsor a fashion show presented by Moondance Boutique from 6 to 8 p.m. June 5 at the Leetonia Community Public Library.

The event will feature a traditional fashion show, with Moondance Boutique providing models and clothing for the event. The event will also feature jazz musician John Reese and include cheeses, beverages and desserts. There will also be door prizes and a raffle basket containing self pampering items. Clothing will also be available for purchase at the event.

Cost is $10 and reservations are requested by the end of May by calling Suzanne Tobuck, friends president, at 260-458-7147.

Tobuck said she met the owners of Moondance Boutique, located at Firestone Farms off state Route 14 in Columbiana, at a sale. That sale created a discussion of a fashion show to help raise money for the Leetonia library, she said.

“As president (of the friends group) I want to do more (for the library) than in the past,” she explained. “We’ve been working on ways to raise money and this is a unique way to raise money.”

According to Tobuck, the friends group provides support and funds for anything the library needs during the year.

“We help keep money flowing so [the library] can purchase whatever is needed,” she said, noting the friends help provide programming and materials to the library.

Tobuck said the friends group is currently a committee of eight dedicated volunteers, but that anyone is welcome to join the group, which meets at 5:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Iron Rails Cafe.

According to information previously provided to the newspaper, the group has improved from a negative balance sheet to a modest but stable budget the past four years while contributing to operation costs of the library through a number of fundraising events in the village.

Within the last year the group has contributed funding for large print books and children’s DVDs and procured a movie license to show current and classic movies for a minimal fee. Patrons enjoy popcorn from the recently acquired popcorn machine while the proceeds go toward the operation and maintenance of the library.
