West Branch drops search for assistant superintendent

BELOIT — The West Branch school board has abandoned its search for an assistant superintendent/curriculum director due to other administrative vacancies.

The school board Thursday night granted a three-year contract to Stephen Fowler as middle school principal effective Aug. 1, 2018, through July 31, 2021, at an annual salary of $90,533. Fowler is currently the principal at Knox Elementary and was a candidate for the proposed position of assistant superintendent/curriculum director.

Schools Superintendent Timothy Saxton said the assistant superintendent/curriculum director search has been canceled since the board is seeking to fill the administrative positions. Fowler is replacing Roger Kitzmiller who resigned because he is moving out of the area. The board still has to replace Fowler at Knox Elementary and Caitlin Reash, who resigned as Damascus Elementary principal effective the end of the school year to focus on her family and further education.

The board also granted a one-year contract to David Reel as high school assistant principal for the 2018-2019 school year and accepted the resignation of Joe Rice as custodian effective June 1.

Also at the meeting the board approved an agreement with the Alliance Community Hospital to provide athletic training coverage for the 2018-2019 school year and accepted $7,810 in donations including $2,785 in materials and labor from Stitle Construction Corp. for two athletic field flagpoles, $2,000 from Whole Kids Foundation for family and consumer sciences, $999 from the West Branch Athletic Boosters for the high school athletics Hudl program, $299 from the West Branch Athletic Boosters for high school athletics football coaching clinic and $1,000 from Tom and Michelle Egli for the high school girls track program.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 28 in the high school media center.
