Woman identified, cause of death still uncertain
SALEM — The body of a deceased woman found in an apartment Friday afternoon has been positively identified as the female resident, 47-year-old Rhonda Ramsey Reed, of 1158 S. Lincoln Ave., which is located just off of Short Street.
“The death appears to be natural, pending toxicology results,” Salem Police Detective Dave Talbert said Tuesday, adding that the investigation is continuing.
Police had been called to the residence at 4:15 p.m. Friday after a family member found her.
Talbert explained that “based on initial observations and the condition of the body, we wanted to assure this wasn’t an accident or obvious trauma.”
He spoke with family members as part of the investigation and he’s still working with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation regarding some of the evidence recovered from the scene.
No ruling has been issued regarding the cause of death and he’s expecting it could take some time until toxicology testing is completed by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, which also performed the autopsy.
The final ruling for cause of death and manner of death will be determined by Columbiana County Coroner Dr. George Wilson.
