Huntington closing Salineville branch

LISBON –The Huntington National Bank branch in Salineville will close Jan. 8, the only branch in Columbiana County to suffer that fate as part of a consolidation plan announced last week.

Salineville branch customers first started receiving letters late last week advising them the office at 50 E. Main St. would close come January, one of 70 branches in Ohio and Michigan targeted for closure by Huntington.

“Huntington regularly reviews its distribution network to ensure our mix of branches, ATMs, and online and mobile banking meets our customers’ evolving needs. In making these adjustments, branches were reviewed for customer traffic patterns, transaction trends and proximity to nearby Huntington branch locations. Many of these branches have an existing Huntington branch in close proximity that can support customers of the consolidating offices,” wrote Emily Smith, vice president of media relations, in an email.

The other Huntington branches closest to Salineville are in Wellsville and Lisbon.

“Our priority is to help our customers’ transition to a new location and to offer more extensive digital and mobile capabilities to meeting changing customer channel preferences,” Smith added.

The closure will bring to an end more than 100 years of banking history at the East Main Street location, which started in 1902 when the Citizens Banking Co. was founded. Citizens later moved to the current location but in 1998 it merged with Mid-Am Inc. to become Sky Bank. Huntington acquired Sky Bank in 2007.
