NW still waiting on Corps OK for water bids

NEW WATERFORD — The village is waiting to hear from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding plans to bid the work out for Phase II of its mult-million dollar water distribution project.

Council passed a resolution to put Phase II out for bidding on Nov. 13.

“We are ready to go to bid,” Mayor Shane Patrone said before the bid.

Fiscal Officer Dave Slagle said Wednesday the village still needs the corps of engineer’s OK and it is waiting to receive the paperwork from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

When the bid resolution was approved on Nov. 13, Patrone said getting to that point was “a really big step” while acknowledging there was a point when “we weren’t sure we would get to Phase II.”

Once bid out, the village expects Phase II work to start around March and then Phase III, the final step in the village project, will become the focus along with the Crestview School water line project that the school will pay for.

Slagle said the village is pushing ahead with plans to get Phase III design work moving and is applying for zero-interest loans.

Also, the village Christmas Parade is set for 4 p.m. Saturday with the line up at 3 p.m. at the Abundant Life Church.

Kids can sit with Santa at the Methodist Church afterward.

Rain is forecast for Saturday and Patrone said the parade “is a go, rain or shine” and if there is too much rain and it’s rained out everyone can just meet at the Methodist Church. Anyone wanting to participate can send a message to the village Facebook page.
