Drawdown at Guilford Lake

Guilford Lake is in a drawdown stage as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, lowers the water depth four to six feet for annual dock maintenance and flood control. The lake, a popular summertime recreation destination in Columbiana County, covers 361 acres with 7.7-miles of shoreline. The drawdown began on Nov. 15 and will continue to Dec. 15, according to the ODNR schedule. The refill dates are from March 1 through April 14, 2019. These docks, just off Hanna Drive, show how much water has been removed and while a thin sheet of ice covers the lake the only life around on a chilly but sunny Sunday, was this group of seagulls, taking in the sun in the middle of the lake. The maximum depth of the lake is listed at 22 feet. (Salem News photos by Larry Shields)
