United school board reorganizes at meeting

HANOVERTON — The United school board re-elected Mike Ellyson as president at its re-organizational meeting Wednesday night.

The board also re-elected Wendy Doyle as vice president.

The board agreed to continue meeting at 7:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the high school library.

Also at the meeting, the board appointed board members to standing committees and other assignments as follows: Ellyson as delegate to the OSBA annual conference, Doyle as alternate delegate to the OSBA annual conference, Doyle as OSBA legislative liaison, RuthAnn Rinto as acting board secretary at board meetings if the treasurer is absent, Denise Rhodes as PTO liaison, Rhodes to the Superintendent’s Advisory Council, Doyle as student achievement liaison, Rhodes and Beth Ann Sheen to the athletic council, Ellyson to the audit committee and Ellyson as Columbiana County Career and Technical Center board representative (term expires Dec. 31, 2020).

The board also established compensation for board members at the maximum rate of $125 per meeting, not to exceed 16 meetings, retained Pepple and Waggoner Ltd. Attorneys at Law as attorney for legal assistance, established the board service fund at $3,000, continued membership in the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) at an estimated $4,106, slightly more than 2018, approved a legal assistance fund consultant service contract with the OSBA at an annual cost of $250 and subscribed to the OSBA Web Based Update Service at an annual cost of $1,550 for the board’s policy book update.

The 2020 organizational meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 8, 2020 in the high school library.
