Meeting set on Perry Twp. zoning review

PERRY TWP. — Zoning Officer Allan Wolfgang advised trustees he has a meeting scheduled with a representative of Plan4Land, who’s already reviewing the township’s zoning book.

The trustees agreed last month to hire the consulting firm to look over the existing zoning book and update it if necessary at an estimated cost of $4,300.

According to Wolfgang, Plan4Land will make suggestions on what should be updated and ask about the township’s goals. The suggestions will be brought back to the trustees. A question was raised on whether recent actions by the zoning board were included in the review.

Wolfgang had provided Plan4Land with the most recent list, but Fiscal Officer Susan Johnston said there was another list from earlier that she would provide him to pass on to Plan4Land.

In new business, Trustee Chair Cliff Mix noted that the annual chip & seal meeting at the Columbiana County Engineer’s Office is next month. Road supervisor Darreck Farrell said he’s only looking to do Golf Club Lane and Chestnut Grove Road. He acknowledged that Chestnut Grove is a paved surface, but it’s starting to show signs of wear and by using chip & seal the road could be held together a couple more years.

Farrell also said the lowest estimate he received for replacing four existing parts on one of the International trucks with coated parts was $3,100. He explained there’s a problem with aluminum flaking off and getting into the oil, which can cause problems with the engine. For now, he said they’ll try the coated parts and take an oil sample to see if there’s still aluminum getting in and take another sample when the oil is changed again. If the aluminum is still there, he said they may have to replace the intake on the motor.

The trustees accepted the resignation of part-time police officer A.J. Konders, who left for a full-time job with the Lisbon Police Department.

The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25.
