One killed, two injured from crash in Fairfield Township
Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lisbon Post are investigating a three-vehicle crash the occurred Wednesday 7:45 p.m.
A 2006 Freightliner and 2012 Toyota Highlander were traveling southbound on state Route 7 near Metz Road. A 2010 Kia Forte was traveling northbound on state Route 7. The Kia traveled left of center swiping the Freightliner before striking the Toyota head on. The Kia ran off the rest side of the roadway and the driver was ejected from the Kia.
The driver of the Kia, 46-year-old Tracy Swinehart of Columbiana County, was transported to Mercy Health of Youngstown by Columbiana EMS. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was not wearing a safety belt.
The Freightliner driver, 44-year-old Jose Siguenza of Fort Smith, Ark. did not sustain any injuries.
The Toyota driver, Joseph Remish and his passenger, Kathy Remish, each 47 years old, were transported to Mercy Health of Youngstown with non-life threatening injuries. They were wearing seat belts.
Assisting agencies on scene were the Columbiana Police Dept., the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, Columbiana Fire/EMS, Beaver Township EMS and State MedEvac.
The crash remains under investigation. Drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol always encourages drivers and occupants to wear the safety belts, reduce speed on rural routes and, if impaired to contact a designated driver.
