Storefront cleanup

Local preservationist Stevie Halverstadt took advantage of some recent warm weather to tidy up outside the historic Lisbon storefront at 111-115 N. Market St. The two-story brick building is believed to have been constructed in 1805, two years after Ohio became a state and Lisbon’s founding. The building was scheduled to be torn down until Halverstadt’s sister, Renelee Lewis, purchased it in October 2017. Lewis is the person behind the Courthouse Restaurant & Inn restoration, and she is in the process of doing the same to the Morgan’s drug store building, which Lewis also purchased to preserve. The Lisbon Landmark Foundation is currently looking for grants to help underwrite the cost of giving the North Market Street property a facelift. By sweeping up outside the building, Halverstadt said she is merely doing what Lisbon merchants did when she was a child. (Salem News photo by Tom Giambroni)
