LISBON — Rain or shine, the Lisbon Lions Club has hosted its annual Easter egg hunt for more than three decades.

According to Rod Seacrist, usually members prepare enough goodies for 300 children; however, there is little doubt that the weather did impact participation this year as some families decided to not risk the rain.

“This place is usually packed,” one volunteer could be overheard saying.

The event started at noon sharp Saturday in the area behind the county fairgrounds, where four areas were roped off for ages 3 and younger, ages 4-6, ages 7-9 and ages 10-12.

Participants made quick work to collect the M&Ms, KitKats and miscellaneous candies that were scattered throughout the grass along with plastic eggs containing surprises, either certificates for a free ice cream cone from Dairy Queen or a ticket for one of the elaborate homemade chocolate candy eggs.

Rules have had to be made to assure fair play, so each child who collected plastic eggs was limited to one of the homemade chocolate eggs each as participants have learned to leave the piece candy behind and for the brightly colored eggs.

Intermingled among all the sweet treats, volunteers also colored 45 dozen hard boiled eggs for the event.

Toting everything from their pink and purple Easter buckets to grocery bags, participants made quick work of the area, spending about five minutes to collect the booty.

The Easter Bunny also made a stop at the hunt prior to the event for those coveted photo ops.
