Leetonia seeks new EMS leader

LEETONIA –Village Council is seeking a new EMS coordinator.

Council this past week acknowledged the resignation of Seth Randolph as EMS coordinator to pursue other employment options. Assistant Coordinator Lisa Unkefer will be the acting chief.

Mayor Kevin Siembida said the position will be posted to the public.

Council had just promoted Unkefer earlier this month at the recommendation of Randolph. She is a 12-year veteran with the department and has served as the top running member for five years.

Randolph himself had just been appointed interim coordinator in February to replace Tom Farley, who stepped down from the position. Farley was hired in October 2015 to help revive the floundering department and eventually agreed to serve as coordinator, with Randolph as the assistant, until the department became stable.

Under Randolph’s recommendations, council has adjusted its billing system to ensure more appropriate payments for runs and established daytime staffing to increase call runs.

Also at the meeting council hired Daniel Moretz as a part-time seasonal laborer for the utilities and street departments and acknowledged Mark Edwards resignation from the fire department.

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 1 at village hall, preceded by a fire committee meeting at 6:30 p.m.
