Sebring BOE votes to shift 6th grade to high school

SEBRING–The Sebring Board of Education on Monday voted to move the sixth-grade from B.L. Miller Elementary School to Sebring McKinley Junior/Senior High School.

Sebring Local Schools plan to introduce a new science and math curriculum to sixth, seventh and eighth grades during the 2019-2020 school year. Placing sixth grade inside the junior high school will make it easier for students to participate in the classes.

“The move is what we feel is best for our students,” said Toni Viscounte, Sebring Local Schools superintendent. “This is strictly an educational decision and was not influenced by finances.”

The Sebring Board of Education hosted a committee meeting on April 1 to hear public feedback on the possibility of moving sixth grade.
