Truck veers off Rt. 14, hits wine shop

COLUMBIANA

Two state Route 14 businesses were affected Wednesday after a truck crashed into the side of the Wine Connection building.

Columbiana police released details on the crash Thursday stating that Robert T. Woodside, 45, of West Mifflin, Pa., was westbound on state Route 14 from state Route 46 at 7:09 a.m. when he went off the right side of the road into a light fixture and the Wine Connection, causing extensive damage to the building.

Woodside was still trapped inside the vehicle when police and first responders arrived, and had to be extricated. He was taken by Columbiana EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown with minor injuries, according to the Columbiana police report.

Woodside told police that he did not remember anything before the crash and did not remember hitting the building.

Police do not believe he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Woodside was driving for Fishman Flooring of Baltimore, Md. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Geary’s Towing.

Police said the Wine Connection building suffered heavy damage from the crash and required utility services to be cut off along with the neighboring EZ Lube business to be closed.

The gaping hole along the front right side of the Wine Connection building was boarded over by Thursday.
