Dinner will benefit Cole Reed

WASHINGTONVILLE – A spaghetti dinner benefiting Cole Reed will be held from noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Washingtonville VFW Post.

The 6-year-old was violently attacked and bludgeoned on Dec. 3 in the Salem Township home of his grandmother, Melinda Todd, who was murdered. Cause of her death was determined to be blunt force trauma. Charges have yet to be filed in the case.

Cole, a United Local kindergartner, suffered severe head injuries and was in a coma for days but has been slowly recovering. According to a family member, he is scheduled Friday to undergo surgery at the Akron Children’s Hospital.

Part of his skull has been replaced with a plate. Complications involving fluid buildups and blood infections have occurred.

He has limited movement in his right arm and hand. He has been undergoing extensive physical therapy. A long-term prognosis is uncertain.

The spaghetti dinner benefit will be held at the VFW Post 5532, located at 575 Leetonia Road.

The dinner will include penne pasta, bread, salad, dessert and a beverage. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 4-10. Children 3 and under are free.

There will be a Chinese auction, door prize raffle and 50/50 drawing.
