CABPW inducts new members

COLUMBIANA – The Columbiana Area Business and Professional Women inducted two members, Laura Good and Barb Weikart-Kuder, at the Feb. 26 meeting.

Good is the director of human resources for the Chestnut Land Company, including Southwoods, The Lake Club and Auntie Anne’s Pretzels.

Weikart-Kuder and her husband, John, operate the KOA Campgrounds in the Lisbon/Salem area.

The CABPW’s mission is to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information; to be the leading advocate for working women; to elevate the standards for women in business and professions; to promote the interests of business and professional women; to bring about a spirit of cooperation among business and professional women of the United States; and to extend opportunities to business and professional women through education along lines of industrial, scientific and vocational activities.

Attorney Shawna L’Italien, the 2012 Athena Award winner, was the guest speaker and explained the significance of the award, the nominating process and her experience as last year’s recipient.

The Athena Award is presented annually to recognize a professional woman who has demonstrated excellence in their chosen career, provided leadership in the community and mentored or contributed to the growth of other professional women.

L’Italien is an attorney at the Salem office of Harrington, Hoppe and Mitchell, Ltd. Her areas of practice include business, corporate, real estate, commercial and employment.

The CABPW meets on the fourth Tuesday of most months at Mason’s Steak House in Salem.
