Green Township appliance drive under way

GREENFORD – The Green Township appliance drive will run today through Saturday during daylight hours at the recycling center located at 12184 Lisbon Road just behind the fire station.

There is a roll-off container for appliances.

No electronics, water softeners or propane tanks will be accepted.

The tire drive will be held from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. There is no charge for the first eight tires (19″ and under) per resident.

Each additional tire is $1.50. Tires larger than 20″ will be $5 each; tires larger than 20″ on a rim will be $8 each; and large farm tires will be $15 each.

Paper shredding will be available from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The shredder truck will be located behind the township garage for residential customers.

The electronics drive will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

Disposal is free for computer monitors turned in with a tower. The television disposal charge is $1 per inch. Other electronics items that are accepted at no charge include laptops, cell phones, DVD and VCR players, keyboards, fax machines, scanners, ink cartridges and other items.

Recycling coordinator Janet Schaffer will be available at the site from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. each Saturday for residents with questions or concerns.

Items accepted on a regular basis at the recycling center include aluminum cans, metal food containers, newspapers w/ads, glass bottles and jars, plastics #1 thru #7, bags of plastic bags, flattened cardboard, phone books and plastic ware (knives, forks, spoons.

The center also accepts motor oil, which can be placed behind the barn, where there is also a marked black garbage bag inside the for household old batteries.

No styrofoam, hard-bound books, window panes, toys, small appliances or mirrors are accepted. For more information, visit:
