Copeland’s 50th anniversary celebration picnic is Friday

Remember twist and shout, hula hoops and poodle skirts? Copeland Oaks is going back to the 50’s with an old fashioned summer picnic to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the retirement community located near Sebring. The event will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday on the lawns between the LakeView Terrace Restaurant and Copeland Lake. The picnic and entertainment are free and the public is cordially invited. A highlight will be the Classic Car Corral sponsored by the Salem Classic Car Cruisers under the direction of Gene Johnson, widely known for his Arby’s Car Cruise. Also on display will be golf carts owned by Copeland residents who are decorating their vehicles in the “Back to the 50s” theme. A collection of antique bicycles will round out the display. Master of Ceremonies Rex Coombs will keep youngsters and oldsters rockin’ at the sock hop. Prizes will be awarded for the winners of the hula hoop, twist and limbo contests. A repertoire of favorite songs from the 50s and 60s will be presented throughout the afternoon by acoustic guitarists Davis and McKay. Kids will enjoy the bounce house and be challenged at the Adrenaline Rush obstacle course. Also provided will be a hot dog roast and ice cream social. For information call 330-938-7519.
