Chicken dinner offered in North Lima
NORTH LIMA – The Calvary United Methodist Church at 12062 South Ave. Ext. will host its monthly drive-thru chicken dinner from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12. The meal includes a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and a brownie. Cost is $6. A portion of each month’s profits is used for mission projects.
Grief Share to resume meeting Sept. 18
NEW WATERFORD – Grief Share, a weekly outreach ministry designed to offer support to families grieving the loss of a loved one, will resume at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the social room of Abundant Life Fellowship. Facilitators are George and Betty Welker, Rick Brown, and Jay Radman, pastor of Lord’s Community Church in East Liverpool.

’90 minutes in Heaven’ author to speak
NORTH LIMA – Speaker and New York Times best selling author, Don Piper, will visit the North Lima Mennonite Church at 7 p.m. Sept. 18. The community is invited.
According to the press release provided, “on his way home from a church conference in 1989, Piper’s Ford Escort was struck head-on by an 18-wheeler. He was killed instantly – pronounced dead by four sets of paramedics. But God worked a miracle and sent him back to a broken body.” To date, 34 surgical procedures have taken place. He walks only as a result of miraculous and in some cases medically unexplainable circumstances. During the time he was dead, Piper was granted the extreme privilege of glimpsing Heaven.
Since the release of his bestselling book, “90 Minutes in Heaven – A True Story of Death and Life,” Piper has traveled across the country and around the world sharing his amazing story. Lisbon Running Club to meet Aug. 24

Yard sale set at North Lima church
NORTH LIMA- Calvary United Methodist Church of North Lima, 12062 South Ave. Extension, will host a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14. To reserve space call 330-482-4824. Spaces available are $15 for 12-foot by 12-foot or $20 for 12-foot by 24-foot. Vendors must supply their own tables and tents. Set up is from 3 to 7 p.m. the day before the sale and vendors must remove tables and unsold items at the end of the sale. The church will provide advertising and will have food and cold drinks available for sale. Payment for the space is due prior to the sale. Proceeds will benefit trip to Red Bird Mission in June 2014. Vendors already scheduled will have antiques, farm produce, crafts, flea market items and much miscellaneous.

Montgomery to speak at Fellowship

NORTH LIMA – A breakfast buffet will be open from 7 to 10 a.m. Aug. 31 at the North Lima Mennonite Church. Donations will be accepted for the all-you-can-eat meal which include eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, potatoes, homemade rolls, sausage gravy and biscuits, peppers and mushrooms and beverages.
A barbecue chicken dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at the church. The meal includes half a chicken, baked potato, green beans, cole slaw or applesauce, roll, cake, and beverage. Cost is $9 for adults and $4.50 for children ages 3-10, dine-in or carryout. Proceeds will be given to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley and Mennonite Disaster Service. Rummage sale set at Damascus church
DAMASCUS – The Damascus United Methodist Church will host its 17th annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at the church, 300 Valley Road.
Shoppers may fill a brown paper bag for $4 on Friday and until noon on Saturday. From noon until closing on Saturday, the cost is $1 per bag. Larger items will be priced separately. Pilgrimage set at Shrine of Our Lady
NORTH JACKSON – The 15th annual pilgrimage in honor of Our Sorrowful Mother will be held on Sept. 15 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon on North Lipkey Road. The novena in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius begins at 2:30 p.m. Anointing of the Sick and the Sacrament of Penance follows. A Slovak Mass will be concelebrated at 3:30 p.m. Father Martin Celuch, pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish of Youngstown, will be the homilist.
This year’s pilgrimage celebrates the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius to Slovakia and the introduction of Christianity to the Slavic people. A dinner follows in Cedar’s Hall at the shrine.
