‘Drive-thru’ flu clinics scheduled

SALEM The Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association will hold “drive-thru” flu clinics every Wednesday in October, weather-permitting, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 718 E. Columbiana church sets rummage sale

Soup, sandwiches offered at church

EAST ROCHESTER Soups and sandwiches will be sold from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the New Alexander Christian Church. Eight varieties of soup are available. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children which includes soup, a sandwich, dessert and beverage. Carryouts are available.

Underground Railroad Tour seats open

Jeanne Martinelli, dressed as a Salem Quaker, will take passengers back in time to the year 1856. Following the sharing of many stories, the travelers will return to the 21st century with a better understanding of the plight of slaves, the working of the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement that flourished in Salem prior to the Civil War.

CROP Walk set at Lisbon church Sunday

LISBON – The Lisbon Christian Rural Overseas Program (CROP) Walk begins at 1 p.m. Sunday in the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church parking lot, in conjunction with World-Wide Communion Day. CROP Walk was founded in 1947 under the wing of Church World Service. Today, CROP Hunger Walks are interfaith hunger education and fundraising events sponsored by CWS across the U.S.

The walk is being sponsored by the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church Mission Team this year. Walkers must sign up pledges on their envelopes and have money collected, if possible by walk day. Each walker must have an envelope. If under 18, walkers must have parental signature to participate in the walk. Registration runs from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in the upper church parking lot. Pledges will be counted and walkers will receive a sticker and a map of the walk. The walk is 2.5 miles to the half-way point and 4.8 miles for the full walk. The trail is marked with CROP signs.

The United Methodist Church will host a brief break site mid-way through the walk with restrooms, water and apples provided. The walk ends at the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church social hall, where pizza, soft drinks and cookies will be served to all participants.

In the past raised over $3,000 was raised. Twenty-five percent of the funds are returned locally to support the local Banquet meal. For more information call Betsy Barringer, CROP chair and treasurer, at 330-424-7651.

A barbecue chicken dinner will be served from 3 to 6 p.m Oct. 12 at the church. The meal includes half a chicken, baked potato, green beans, applesauce, roll, pie and beverage. Cost is $9 for adults and $6.50 age 12 and under.

LEETONIA- The Friends of the Leetonia Community Public Library are holding a Halloween costume exchange again this year. Drop off unwanted, clean costumes at the library today through Oct. 15 and receive one ticket for each costume donated. On Oct. 24 and 25 bring the ticket(s) to the library and pick up a different costume(s). Adult and childrens costumes will be accepted.
