WR?Rangers present spirit award

BERLIN?CENTER-Collin Meehan was presented “the 4-H Spirit Award” by club officers Levi Smith, Jena Styka and Ian Hames when the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club met for their annual Member Recognition Night.

Advisor Robin Reph distributed the “2014 4-H Family Guide” and advised the youth to help with recruiting new members. She also suggested that members could get a start on next years projects including new projects outlined in the “Family Guide.” She encouraged as many as possible to attend the Ohio 4-H Conference for teens and volunteers on the second Saturday in March of next year. Reph mentioned that Advisor Kathleen Moser will be a presenter at the conference.

Secretary Emily Smith encouraged the teens to attend the conference and that same evening to attend The Collegiate 4-H sponsored Plow Boy Prom. The prom is at the new 4-H Center on the campus of Ohio State University.

Advisor Steve Reph was recognized for his hard work in cleaning the poultry and rabbit areas following the Canfield Fair. Diane and Jim Pitcairn were thanked for their 12 years as 4-H advisors as they will be retiring at the end of the year. They provided excellent leadership and support for many years. Bob and Karen Day recently completed 25 years as 4-H advisors.

Club officers Ian Hames, Levi Smith, Emily Smith and Jena Styka presented the 4-H members with their 4-H Certificates Of Achievement, the Canfield Fair exhibit premiums and their project ribbons. Styka and Smith, members of the 2013 Royal Court, assisted the Mahoning County Extension Staff with the County Volunteer Banquet on Nov. 7. Refreshments were served by the club officers.

The next meeting begins at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Ellsworth Fire Hall for the annual organizational meeting. Prospective new members can attend the January meeting or contact Jan and Kathleen Moser at 330-547-7422. Eligibility for 4-H membership begins when a child is enrolled in the third grade and at least 8 years of age as of Jan. 1 of the current year and ends Dec. 31 of the year in which an individual attains the age of 19.
