Damascus Ruritans discusses schedule

DAMASCUS – Twenty-eight members and guests of the Damascus Ruritan Club met Jan. 9 in the fellowship hall at the Damascus United Methodist Church. Dinner was prepared and served by the ladies of the church.

After dinner David Denny led the members in the singing of “Happy Birthday” to members with a birthday in January.

The club sent a thank-you note to the Damascus Garden Club for furnishing the table decorations for the ladies and guests dinner for the club’s 60th anniversary on Dec. 7 at Heritage Oaks Banquet Center in Sebring.

President Rick Bell asked the five community services committees to gather and discuss their plans and projects and submit their budgets for the coming year.

The Zone 6 meeting including (Beloit, Damascus, Goshen Center, Knox, West Branch Area Ladies, and West Branch Ruri-teen Clubs) is scheduled at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, 15096 W. Middletown Road. Cost is $9 per meal, hosted by Goshen Center Ruritan Club.

It was announced, the Ruritan National Convention would be convening Jan. 23 in Branson, Mo. The Ohio District has made available a commercial bus for those wishing to use it, leaving Ohio on Jan. 20 and returning Jan. 27.

The Ohio District Cabinet meeting begins at 9 a.m. Feb. 8 at Guilford Lake Ruritan Club on Route 172.

Bell announced plans for upcoming dinners, starting with the spring Swiss steak dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. March 15 at the West Branch High School cafeteria; the FFA banquet on May 1; the Goshen High School alumni banquet on June 14. Dinner chairpersons will be Vice President Nick Morrison and Raphael Oliveira, with the total club membership helping to prepare and serve the dinners.

Prospective new member guest night is April 10. All members are urged to seek out new prospective guests who would be interested in becoming members of the club.

Upcoming community service projects on May 24 include the Food Collect Drive from 9 a.m. to noon at the Damascus Post Office parking lot and the rabies clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Damascus Fire Department Building on Route 534.

The annual flag retirement ceremony begins at 1 p.m. June 14 at the Damascus Community Park with the help of Boy Scout Troop 55 and the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department.
