Local student participates in Liberty Bowl

Chandler Hoppel and her family traveled to Memphis, Tenn., recently to the 55th annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl at Memphis Memorial Stadium. Hoppel was chosen to represent Ohio by the America’s Homecoming Queen National Pageant Registry as an elite individual. There were 100 girls who participated in the event, representing 36 states, 13 from Ohio. While in Memphis, Hoppel and the other queens toured St. Jude Children’s Hospital and were also a big part of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl Parade on Beale Street. On game day they participated in the pregame show, escorted by members of the National Guard, and at half time performed with Diamond Rio. “This was a once in a life time opportunity,” said Hoppel. “I met girls from all over the country and plan on keeping in future contact with them. We have all exchanged emails, Facebook, Twitter and cell numbers. The visit to St. Jude was probably my favorite event. To see how much St. Jude helps all those children and their families for free, is amazing! This was truly an awesome experience that I will cherish forever.” Hoppel is a senior at Beaver Local High School and the daughter of Doug and Jodi Hoppel. (Submitted photo)
