Mahoning historical society set for sweet fundraiser

YOUNGSTOWN – Looking to exceed the 7,000 sweet treats at the inaugural Cookie Table and Cocktails fundraiser, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society is preparing for the second annual event slated from from 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St.

The event is being organized by the Young Leaders Advisory Board (YLAB), a group within the Mahoning Valley Historical Society comprised of members between the ages of 21-50. The purpose is to raise funds for the new exhibits that will be installed at the Tyler History Center.

Event Chair and YLAB President Frank Rulli said, “YLAB wanted to create a signature fundraiser to support the Tyler History Center campaign, and we decided that the cookie table was the perfect way to do that. Not only does it celebrate a unique Mahoning Valley tradition, but it also highlights our area’s diverse cultures and food connoisseurs. The entries in the Cookie Contest were spectacular, and we anticipate even tougher competition this time around.”

Coming on board as Cookie Table and Cocktails Title Sponsor is The Waypoint Group of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, located on Route 224 in Canfield. First Vice President and Branch Manager Scott Zoldan said, “I joined the MVHS board of directors two years ago and have been impressed with the extent of its collections as well as the caliber of its outreach programs. My business partner Jeff Barone and I wanted to support this event because we strongly believe in the organization’s mission and we heard how good it was last year, especially the cookies!”

Billed as a “fun and frivolous wedding reception atmosphere” with music, dancing, appetizers, beverages, and a cookie table extraordinaire, Cookie Table and Cocktails is looking to recruit more event sponsors, silent auction donations, and cookie bakers.

Sponsorship levels, which offer varying degrees of publicity and complimentary tickets, are Wedding Reception Sponsor $1,000, Wedding Dance Sponsor $500, Bouquet Sponsor $250, Honeymoon Sponsor $100, and Guest Book Sponsor $25-75. Deadline for sponsorship is January 24. Contact MVHS Campaign Director Cheryl (Staib) Lewis at or 330-743-2589 or Rulli at or 330-747-2800.

Items are also needed for the Silent Auction; several donations to date include a Keurig coffeemaker basket; framed photos of historic Mahoning Valley places; wine baskets; and a “behind the scenes” tour of the MHVS Archives and Arms Family Museum. Amateur and professional cookie bakers must submit an application; the total number of bakers will be limited to 60, so those who are interested should apply as soon as possible.
