West Point Lions Club meets, returns ‘stolen’ gavel

West Point Lions President Pat Tressler welcomed 20 members and 15 guests to the meeting on Jan. 20. Pictured are Janis Mundy, left, and Sandy Shulas who presented Lisbon Lions President Jim Shaffer with their club’s “stolen” gavel. During club visitations, it is a tradition to steal the host club’s gavel if the opportunity arises. The club whose gavel is stolen then must visit the other club to retrieve it. Guests present from the Lisbon club were John Shulas, Bill Mundy, Bill Hoover, Tom Kirkbride, Charles Davis, Dick Grosser and Jerry Carman. Guests present from the Calcutta club were Tim and Vicki Coalmer, Janet and Wayne Christen and Joe, Sharon and Ashley Hall. Zone 9 Chairman Wayne Christen congratulated West Point Lions on its growth patch award received from Lions Club International. Members voted to donate funds to a local Lion and his family who sustained injuries in an auto accident. A donation was given to a local family who lost their home to a fire and to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Pat Klein won the 50/50. The next meeting begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 3.
