HSCC’s ‘Bands, Baskets, Bocce and Bar-B-Q’ is May 3 Guilford Lake Grille

LISBON – A Kentucky Derby Hat contest will be just one of the many entertainment and fund-raising opportunities at the Humane Society (HSCC) of Columbiana County’s “Bands, Baskets, Bocce and Bar-B-Q” to be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 3 at the Guilford Lake Grille, 7094 E. Lake Road.

Doors open at 11 a.m. with longtime piano player Pete Rukenbrod offering old-time piano and sing-a-long music.

At 1 p.m. Acoustic Guitarist John Volio will perform followed by Salem’s own Bluegrass band Donkey Engine.

Viewing of the Kentucky Derby will take place on two giant screens and followed by a Kentucky Derby Hat Contest. The entry fee is $5 per person with a grand prize of a bocce party for 20 people valued at $170.

The legendary country band Pure Gold will take the stage following the Kentucky Derby and the RST Band will play classic Rock from 8 to 10 p.m.

Admission is $10 and a barbecue buffet for $5 will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. and includes pulled pork, potato salad, baked beans and dessert.

Individuals bringing shelter supplies such as paper towel, bleach, Odo-Ban, latex glove, trash and garbage bags, laundry detergent, clay kitty litter and puppy and kitten food will receive raffle tickets for the basket raffle.

Door prizes and giveaways as well as bocce demonstrations and free games will take place throughout the day. All proceeds benefit the humane society and the rescue, care and treatment of abused and neglected pets in Columbiana County.
