SBC poised to plant flowers and clean downtown area

Salem Beautification Committee (SBC) met April 14 to discuss plans for planting flowers and cleaning the downtown area. “The public has been very supportive of our Adopt a Planter program over the last several years, and we are hoping to sell out this year, as well. We need every urn sold to purchase all the flowers and fertilizer needed for downtown,” said Karen Carter, SBC co-chairman. There are still 14 small planters available at $15 each and one tall at $20. All planters will have markers with the donor’s name. The donor can add “in memory” or “in honor” of someone. If interested in sponsoring a planter call the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce office at 330-337-3473 or Carter at 330-332-4959. SBC’s annual Downtown Clean-up Day is slated 9 a.m. to noon April 26. Volunteers are asked to meet at McCulloch Park, next to Troll’s Jewelry. All personal items such as rakes, brooms, leaf blowers, etc. should be marked with the owner’s name. Bags will be provided by the city service department. “We are hoping for a great turnout, and we appreciate everyone who takes time out of their busy schedule to help us. Remember, it is a great way to give back to the community, regardless of age,” said Carter.
