Auburn retirement home marks National Nursing Home Week

In celebration of National Nursing Home Week, the staff and guests living at Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Damascus held a weeklong Hawaiian luau and tribute to the tropics. The building entrance was decked in palms and umbrellas, with flamingos sunning under blue skies. Pineapples and coconuts were in abundance and colorful buckets and beach balls could be seen in the sand. Events for the week included beach bingo, homemade leis for all, carving fresh pineapples, banana splits, a concert by performer Jill Jordan Burke, fresh lemon shake ups, and a hula hoop contest for the staff. A cake was provided to the staff as a thank you for all that they do throughout the year, and each staff member was awarded a T- shirt printed with the Auburn logo. Functional Pathways Therapy Department provided fresh fruit smoothies. Pictured are, from left, Paula Elmerick, administrator; Kelly Filisky, dietary manager; and Mabel Nelder, cook. (Submitted photo)
