Banquet in Salem features chicken tenderloin

SALEM The family of a very special person will sponsor the Banquet in Salem from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. Chicken tenderloin, scalloped potatoes, three-bean salad, beets, applesauce, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, cookies and ice cream will be served.

Breakfast buffet offered at North Lima church

NORTH LIMA – An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet will be available from 7 to 10 a.m. May 31 at the North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive. Donations will be accepted. Items on the buffet will include eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, potatoes, homemade rolls, sausage gravy and biscuits, peppers and mushrooms and beverages.

The Bontrager Family Singers will be in concert at 7 p.m. June 20 at the church. The event is not ticketed but a free-will offering will be taken.

The Bontrager Family Singers is a family music group from eastern Iowa. The family consists of Marlin and Becky and their 10 children, ages 5-22. They have traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, sharing in word and song through a unique, refreshing gospel/bluegrass style.

Calla Community Church goes on summer hours

CANFIELD – Summer hours begin Sunday and continue until September at Calla Community Church. The worship service starts at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

Dan Schall to perform at Damascus Methodist

DAMASCUS – Dan Schall of Zelienople, Pa., will present a concert at 10:10 a.m. June 15 at the Damascus United Methodist Church. Schall stutters when he speaks, but the Lord has granted him with a singing voice of praise to share the Lord’s words through music.

He worked a full-time job for the last 30 years and still continued to give 100 to 125 concerts a year. In the fall of 2001, he resigned his job and formed Dan Schall Ministries.

He and his wife Linda travel thousands of miles each year spreading the Gospel message. For more information visit DanSchall.org.

Drive-thru chicken dinners offered

NORTH LIMA – Drive-thru chicken dinners will be sold from 3 to 6 p.m. June 12 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave. Ext. DAMASCUS The monthly community breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. today at the Damascus United Methodist Church, 300 Valley Road. The suggested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

Celtic-style worship service planned

SALEM – The First Presbyterian Church of Salem will present a Celtic-style worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Included will be musical selections from “The Celtic Choir” by Joseph M. Martin, “The Deer’s Cry,” “You Raise Me Up” and “The Blessing.”

Accompanying the choir will be a small consort ensemble of flute, violin, cello, guitar, piano and percussion. Featured vocal soloists are Cheryl Kekel and Jayne Bricker. This musical presentation will be a part of regular worship service and is open to the public. Nancy McNeal and Gary Kekel will provide keyboard accompaniment. John Krauss is director of music. Stephen Holter, bagpiper, will open the service with a special musical selection.

EP church to help host Safety Town

EAST PALESTINE – In connection with the East Palestine Police and Fire Department, the East Palestine Nazarene Church, will host Safety Town from 10 a.m. to noon June 9-13 at the East Palestine Community Center at City Park. Children entering preschool, kindergarten and first grade (or ages 4-7 by June 9 this year) are invited.

Safety Town is a one-week course focusing on teaching children about fire safety, 911 emergency calls, “Stranger Danger,” bike and bus safety, etc. Cost is $10 due at registration from 6 to 7 p.m. May 19 or 2 to 3 p.m. May 25 at the church.

Baquet in Salem offers stuffed chicken breast

SALEM – The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The menu offers stuffed chicken breast, smashed red-skinned potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad, fresh fruit and vegetables, brownies and ice cream. Next week’s meal is sponsored by St. Paul Team I and co-sponsored by Friends Roastery.

Mother’s Day service set in Gavers

GAVERS – Corporal Joe Hendricks of East Liverpool will deliver the sermon at 9:30 a.m. Mother’s Day, May 11, at New Lebanon Presbyterian Church on Route 518.

The youth of the church will perform songs and a poem to honor the mothers of the church. The youth will also have prizes for the “winning” mothers in many categories.

Golden Street Singers to perform

LEETONIA – The Golden Street Singers will be in concert at 7 p.m. May 7 at the Leetonia Mennonite Church. Brenda and Charles Jarvis have been singing southern gospel music throughout Ohio and surrounding states since 2010 and are in their fifth year in the music ministry. They are hosts of the Victory Gospel Jubilee in North Lima and Heritage Gospel Jubilee in Cortland. They sing original and traditional southern gospel music. The public is invited.
