West Point Lions learn about Lions Club start

Past District Governor Bob Booher from the Canal Fulton Lions Club spoke on the history of the formation of Lions clubs by Melvin Jones in 1917 when West Point Lions met May 5. He said the Lions focus became eye care and blindness after the 1925 convention where Helen Keller was the keynote speaker. He then presented Charolette Davis with a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. President Pat Tressler welcomed 27 members and three guests to the meeting. She said the club received a banner patch for its 2014-15 officers attending the spring conference. New policies and procedures manuals were given to the members. These will be discussed at the next meeting at 7 p.m. May 19 at St. Agatha’s Church. Sandy Conn made a motion to accept the transfer of Carol and Brandy Anderson from the East Liverpool Lions club to the West Point club which was carried. Davis announced three members visited the New Waterford Lions Club. Tressler presented Booher and his wife Peggy with a candy jar. Peach Smith won the 50/50. (Submitted photo)
