Cycling club, bike shops offer safety tips
The Out-Spokin’ Wheelmen
cycling club is partnering with area bike shops to be sure people buying a new bicycle this season get started on the “right foot.” The Youngstown- based club with 300 members throughout the Mahoning Valley has purchased safe cycling pamphlets to be offered at the shops. “We see riders doing all sorts of things that put them at risk, like riding against traffic on the road or riding at night without lights,” said Club President Ed Howley of Youngstown. The handouts list over a dozen safety tips including always wearing a helmet and obeying all vehicle laws. Pamphlets are available at Thumm’s Bike Shop in Warren, Frankford Bicycles in Girard, Cooper’s Cycle and Fitness in Cortland, Austintown Glenwood Cycle in Austintown and Outdoor Recreational Equipment in Boardman. The pamphlets also come with a free one-year membership to the club. More information about the club is available online at outspokinwheelmen.com.
