First Presbyterian honoring Denise Herron Weingart

First Presbyterian’s Big Backyard kicks off at 6 p.m. today under a new name.

In honor of its founder and coordinator, Denise Herron Weingart, the program will now be called “Denise’s Big Backyard.”

Weingart passed away this spring, leaving as her legacy the Big Backyard, a summer program hosted by First Presbyterian Church from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday.

All members of the community are welcome to enjoy a free meal, community programs, games and fellowship at the church located at 436 E. Second St.

Today’s Big Backyard is a strawberry festival and will also feature a brief ceremony in memory of Weingart.

First Presbyterian Church is proud to partner with other local organizations throughout the summer, including Boy Scout Troop #3, the Salem Police Department, and the Salem Historical Society. Program themes will include farm adventures, backyard arts, a carnival, and more.
