HEAP Summer Crisis Program scheduled
LISBON – Community Action Agency’s HEAP Summer Crisis Program (SCP) runs July 1 through Aug. 31. Appointments for the HEAP Summer Crisis Program begin July 7 and may be made beginning June 23 by calling the automated phone service at 330-424-1386. Walk-ins will be seen for the first week of the program (July 1-3).
The HEAP Summer Cooling Program allows for a one-time payment for income eligible households. This assistance must result in a continuation of electric service for at least 30 days, and the client may also be eligible to receive an air conditioner. CARTS drivers are not permitted to allow the transport of air conditioners on the transit vehicles. Arrangements must be made by the client to get the air conditioner to his/her home if found eligible for this benefit.
Households with a member who is 60 years or older must show proof of age, but no doctor’s prescription is necessary to apply for assistance. Households with members under 60 years old must have a documented medical need verified by a physician stating that, “Due to an illness, (patient) would benefit from continued electric service and/or an air conditioner.” Those with an unregulated electric utility (i.e. City of Columbiana or Carroll Co-Op) must bring proof of disconnection to show eligibility. Households must have a combined income at or below 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Proof of income for the past 90 days for all members of the household who are 18 years or older is required at the time of application. This includes child support, wages, Social Security income, pensions, cash assistance, OWF, etc. The primary applicant must also provide photo identification and birth certificate for him/herself as well as Social Security numbers and birthdates for all household members. A current gas and electric bill, and lease agreement or rent receipt are also required when applying.
