Grant awarded for pipeline training
Jason Wilson, Governor’s Office of Appalachia director, along with congressmen Bill Johnson and Tim Ryan and local officials, are announcing $150,000 grant for the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 396. This money, from the State Appalachian Development Grant Program will be used to train workers for jobs related to the Marcellus and Utica shale operations. A new class of apprentices and displaced welders will be trained on pipeline construction and downhill welding technique at the Local 396 facility in Boardman.
The State Appalachian Development Grants are for projects that increase job opportunities in the Appalachian region as well as improving the community infrastructure to encourage economic development.
