ACROSS OUR COMMUNITIES
Street Smart event coming to Leetonia
LEETONIA–Leetonia Schools will host Operation Street Smart for students, parents and community members from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. March 2 in the high school gymnasium. The assembly will be presented to junior/senior high students, but parents, students, teachers and community members are encouraged to attend.
Operation Street Smart is a program developed by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and is instructed by undercover narcotics officers and members of the Franklin County Community Relations unit. The presentation is geared toward students and is presented as an educational session promoting awareness, responsible decision making and encouraging students to live a drug free lifestyle.
The program is designed to educate parents, teachers, community partners and anyone with a nexus to children about current drug trends, terminology and paraphernalia. The goal of the presentation is to arm parents, teachers and community members with the information necessary to recognize the influences of the drug culture on children, familiarize them with the many different drugs our children face, and share the experience and knowledge of undercover narcotics officers so they are better prepared to help children make the right choices.
Operation Street Smart is one of several educational initiatives Leetonia Schools is planning in an effort to engage, inform and educate students to reduce and ultimately eliminate illegal drug use among high school students and young adults.
