Local students among University of Akron graduates

AKRON — Area students were among the Fall 2016 University of Akron graduates:

ALLIANCE: Krysten Buch, bachelor’s of arts in education in AYA-integrated language arts; Jay Flowers, bachelor’s of arts in family development; Dominique Heck, bachelor’s of science in biology; Shelley Norman, bachelor’s of science in organizational supervision.

COLUMBIANA: Alyssa Hamilton, bachelor’s of business administration in human resources management; Alyssa Rohan, bachelor’s of arts in child development; Michael Rohan, bachelor’s of science in organizational supervision.

EAST LIVERPOOL: Jacob Allen, bachelor’s of arts in media studies; Jordan Steele, bachelor’s of business administration in marketing management program.

EAST PALESTINE: James Figley, master’s of arts in education in counseling-marriage and family.

EAST ROCHESTER: Jill Cooper, bachelor’s of arts/social work in social work.

LISBON: Randi Hoy-Rappach, master’s of arts in communication-thesis option.

Lisbon kindergarten registration under way

LISBON– Lisbon Exempted Village School District will hold kindergarten and preschool registration for the 2017-2018 school year.

Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2017 may begin to register their children for kindergarten.

New this year, parents who have access to a computer can register their children online using the school website. Under forms and links across the top of the page, go down the right side to OneView (parent portal) to begin. Those who do not have access to a computer will be able to register at the board office, 317 N. Market St.

Non-residents who wish to apply for open enrollment to the Lisbon kindergarten must be 5 years of age by the date set by the district of residence.

Registration completion will be made the week of March 27. Appointments may be made by calling the board office at 330-424-7714. Screenings will be held May 2 and 3. Appointments will be made at the time of registration.

Registration for the Lisbon Preschool will also be available online.

There are a limited number of places available therefore, the 4 year olds will be considered first with 3 year olds taking the remaining spots. For those who do not have access to a computer, computers are available at the board office.

Quentin Rice earns dean’s list at Chatham University

PITTSBURGH — Quentin Rice of Salem was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester at Chatham University in Pittsburgh. She is studying for a bachelor’s of science degree in sustainability.

Rice is a graduate of St. Paul School in Salem and Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown. She is the daughter of Benita Rice of Salem and Douglas Rice of Sacramento, Calif.

Anna Liva Rice graduates with honors

PITTSBURGH — Anna Livia Rice of Salem graduated magna cum laude in the fall 2016 from Point Park University in Pittsburgh.

She is the daughter of Benita Rice of Salem and Douglas Rice of Sacramento, Calif.

Rice earned a bachelor’s of science degree in sports, arts and entertainment management with a double minor in accounting and business management.

She graduated from St. Paul School in Salem and Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown.

Zamarelli achieves dean’s list at Kent State University

SALEM — Brittany M. Zamarelli of Salem has been placed on the dean’s list for the College of Business Administration at Kent State University.

To attain dean’s list recognition, students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher.
