orientation meeting for March 13

HANOVERTON — Parents of children who will be 5 before Aug. 1 and live in the United District or are considering open enrollment are invited to attend a parent orientation meeting at 6 p.m. March 13 in the elementary cafeteria.

Registration packets will be handed out and other information will be shared to help with enrolling new kindergartners and getting them off to a successful start.

During the meeting, appointments will be scheduled for March 21, 22 or 23, when packets can be returned and students will be screened.

Documents that will need to be gathered are the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records, custody documents (if applicable), a photo identification and two proofs of residency.

These will be presented along with the completed registration packet on the scheduled screening date. Any questions call the elementary office at 330-223-8001.

Lisbon Schools’ kindergarten,

preschool registration under way

LISBON– Lisbon Exempted Village School District are holding kindergarten and preschool registration for the 2017-2018 school year.

Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2017 may begin to register their children for kindergarten. New this year, parents who have access to a computer can register their children online using the school website.

Under forms and links across the top of the page, go down the right side to OneView (parent portal) to begin.

Those who do not have access to a computer will be able to register at the board office, 317 N. Market St.

Non-residents who wish to apply for open enrollment to the Lisbon kindergarten must be 5 years of age by the date set by the district of residence.

Registration completion will be made the week of March 27.

Appointments may be made by calling the board office at 330-424-7714. Screenings will be held May 2 and 3. Appointments will be made at the time of registration.

Registration for the Lisbon Preschool will also be available online.

There are a limited number of places available therefore, the 4 year olds will be considered first with 3 year olds taking the remaining spots.

For those who do not have access to a computer, computers are available at the board office.

Salem Regional Medical Center

sponsoring Fourth Thursday Banquet

SALEM — The Fourth Thursday Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.

The meal will be sponsored by Salem Regional Medical Center.

The menu offers breaded pork chops, “company” potatoes, vegetable, salad, fresh vegetables and fruit and dessert.

Public breakfast will be served

Saturday at Salem Masonic Building

SALEM–A public breakfast buffet will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Masonic Building, 788 E. State St.

Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2.

The menu offers pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea.

Columbiana Friends of the Library

holding benefit book sale on March 11

COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana Friends of the Library is holding a book sale to benefit the library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 11.

Prices are 25 cents for paperback books, 50 cents for hardbacks and $1 for audiovisual material including DVDs, VHSs, cassette tapes, CDs, audiobooks and vinyl records.

The preview sale for members of the the Friends of the Library is slated from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10.

Memberships can be purchased that night at $3 for an individual and $5 per family.

Spaghetti dinner benefit planned

March 18 at the Eagles Club

SALEM — A benefit for Krissi Reed Swiger who was diagnosed with lung cancer will be held March 18 at the Eagles Club, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave.

A spaghetti dinner will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 5 to 10. A Chinese auction and raffle is slated at 7:30 p.m.

Lupus Foundation hosting call-in support group

SALEM — The Lupus Foundation of America Greater Ohio Chapter will host its monthly call-in support group from 7 to 8 p.m. March 8. Call 888-NO-LUPUS or visit LupusGreaterOhio.org to register and receive the call-in information. This support group is an open environment that encourages discussion among lupus patients and their families. This support group is designed for individuals who do not live in close proximity to an in-person support group, do not have transportation, or are not able to leave the house. Any individual affected by lupus can attend this support group from any location with access to a telephone. The support group provides an opportunity where people with lupus can share their experiences and ask questions. Most discussions focus on the “how-to’s” of living with a chronic illness.
