VFW 5532 Auxiliary to elect officers

WASHINGTONVILLE – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532 Auxiliary will hold nomination and election of officers for the 2017-18 year at 6 p.m. April 10 at the post home.

R-Weigh recognizes weight loss

SALEM — Peggy Kurtz read the inspiration, “Everyone shines in the right light” when 30 members of R-Weigh met on March 13 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue. Group One winners were Rosemarie Martinez, good loser; and Raeann Sanor and Patty Pim, honorable mention.

Group Two winners were Jodie Gutherie and Renae Olson, in the green; Gina Swartz, best loser; Donna Greenamyer, runner-up; Doris Senior, Jean Stewart and Susan Cain, honorable mention; and Stephanie Criss, in the green.

Calorie chart winners were Martinez, Cain, Birdie Reinhart and Swartz. Goalie calorie chart winners were Lisa Smith and Jo Carol Gray. The goalie can do award went to Wilma Grams.

Vicki Knizak led a discussion titled “Why we cheat on our diets.”

Sharon Bigalow presented a program on food addictions when 34 members met on March 20. Kurtz read the inspiration, “How many times have you been lured to eat by what you see?” Group One winners were Martinez, good loser; Ginger Yost, Lois Wood and Nancy Stryffler, honorable mention; and Gutherie, in the green.

Group two winners were Sara Smith, best loser; Swartz, runner up; Stewart, honorable mention; and Criss, in the green. Calorie Chart winners were Martinez, Yost, Swartz and Wood. Goalie calorie chart winners were Lisa Smith and Kurtz. The Can Do award went to Cain. Goalie Can Do awards went to Kurtz and Ruth Miller. Prospective members are invited to meetings which are now held from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the church on Jennings Avenue. Weigh-ins are held from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m.

Ruritans learn about Prison Ministries

DAMASCUS — Twenty-five members of the Damascus Ruritan Club and one guest met on March 9 in the fellowship hall of the Damascus United Methodist Church for dinner prepared and served by the ladies of the church. Members with March birthdays and anniversaries were announced by Acting Secretary John Coldsnow. President David Wingett led the group in singing “Happy Birthday.”

Wingett introduced Bob Casto from Prison Ministries. He spoke of his life and being in trouble as a youth to hearing “Follow Me” while in prison to his current role in the Prison Ministries.

The club will serve the West Branch Future Farmers of America banquet on April 26 in the West Branch High School gymnasium. The 2017 spring banquet booklet ads have been secured by Mahlon Griffith and sent to the district.

Walt Lautzenheiser spoke about the club’s antique car show scheduled for Aug. 17 in the north parking lot of the Damascus Friends Church.

Upcoming events include the Ohio District spring banquet on April 15 at the Amish Door Banquet Center. Cost is $18 per person. The board meeting has been moved to April 3. The next regular meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. April 6.

Saxon Club sausage sale set April 29

SALEM — The Salem Saxon Club at 1980 Newgarden Road (state Route 9), will host its spring sausage sale on April 29 with pick-up hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Available for $3 per pound is rope sausage in 3 and 5 pound packages in mild, garlic and hot. Also available for $3 per pound is bulk sausage in 3 pound packages only in mild, garlic and hot.

Orders are due by April 24 by calling Marilyn McNutt at 216-410-7291.

Sausage sandwiches, doughnuts and coffee will be sold during pick-up hours.
