Salem AMVETS sponsors ‘Americanism’ essay contest in Lisbon

SALEM–AMVETS Post 45 in Salem sponsored an annual “Americanism” essay contest. The theme for the 2016-2017 year was “Why It’s Important to Vote!” The contest is designed to promote patriotism among America’s youth in grades six through 12. Students at David Anderson Jr./Sr. High School participated. Winners were awarded for each grade level. Senior winners are first-place Lindsey Chludzinski, second-place Aliyah Leyman and third-place Catelyn Frantz. Junior winners are first-place Eva DeRuyter and second-place Lindsey Richards. Sophomore winners are first-place Katie Chludzinski, second-place Mackenzie Brown and third-place Garrett Cox. Freshman winners are first-place Alivia Leyman, second-place Elycia Smith and third-place Austin Craig. Eighth-grade winners are first-place Megan Chludzinski, second-place Madelyn Wells and third-place Brianna Simons. Seventh-grade winners are first-place Nathan Smith, second-place Jaidynn Entrikin and third-place Rowan Toalston and Asha Achberger. Sixth-grade winners are first-place Asia Sokolouosky, second-place Kyle Duffy and third-place Barbara Wells and Brynn Buckley.
