YSU STEM students receive awards, scholarships
YOUNGSTOWN — Awards and scholarships were presented to 56 exceptional Youngstown State University students at the annual College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Honors Convocation, celebrated recently on the YSU campus. Local YSU students recognized and their award/awards:
Logan Muraco of Columbiana, Outstanding Graduate Student in Mathematics and Statistics
Samuel Powers of Columbiana, Frank M. Clark Physics Award
Gabrielle Van Scoy of Libson, J. Douglas Faires Outstanding Student in Mathematics and Statistics Award
YSU Forensic Science Club members visit FBI Academy
YOUNGSTOWN — Members of Youngstown State University’s Forensic Science Club traveled recently to Quantico, Va., to visit the FBI Training Academy.
The following local YSU students participated in the trip:

Salem Saxon Scholarship applications available
SALEM — The Salem Saxon Scholarship Fund trustees have announced that 2017 scholarship application forms are now available at the guidance offices of Salem High School, West Branch High School and United Local High School. All students who meet eligibility are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and plan to attend or be enrolled in a post high school educational program in the fall of 2017. The completed scholarship applications and required attachments are due no later than May 31. This fund has been awarding scholarships for 31 years and has given more than $135,000 to area high school students toward their secondary education.
The scholarships are funded through donations and other fundraising events. Donations may be made in honor of a student or as a memorial to a loved one. Contact Barbara Spack at 330-337-7487 for information on how to make a donation or questions about the scholarships.
