Dulcimer lessons at EL park

EAST LIVERPOOL – A “Learn to Play the Dulcimer” workshop will be offered from 2 to 4 p.m. June 4 at historic Gaston’s Mill located in the Pioneer Village of Beaver Creek State Park in Columbiana County.

The workshop is for beginners and no musical ability is required. All music and instruction sheets will be provided. Also, several instruments will be available for use for those who wish to learn but do not have a dulcimer.

Cost is $20 with all proceeds going to The Friends of Beaver Creek State Park, a non-profit volunteer group dedicated to preserving the log structures and other buildings located within the Pioneer Village.

Leetonia library trustees to meet

LEETONIA–The Board of Trustees of the Leetonia Community Public Library will hold a special board meeting at 10 a.m. June 13 at the library. The meeting is in addition to its usual scheduled meeting at 5:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month.

Free health care classes offered

CANTON- The Aultman Medical Education and Education Development departments present a summer program designed for students who are interested in health care careers.

The 10th annual Summer Symposium is open to college students, 2017 high school graduates and high school students who will be seniors in fall of 2017. The symposium will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 22 in the Aultman Education Center Amphitheater.

Presenters will include doctors, nurses and Aultman administrators, who will share insight on the challenges and opportunities of working in health care. The health care career fair portion of the day will feature dozens of Aultman services and departments. In addition to the symposium, the shadowing of doctors, nurses and other health care professionals is available in July 2017.

Farmers Market vouchers at CAA

LISBON–Community Action Agency of Columbiana County (CAA) is currently scheduling appointments for those interested in applying for the Farmer’s Market fresh produce program funded through the Community Service Block Grant. Appointments will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis with a limited number of vouchers available. Appointments can only be made by calling an automated scheduling system at 844-493-1198. No walk in appointments accepted. Appointments will run through June 30, or until vouchers have been exhausted. The CAA office is located at 7860 Lincole Place (rear), in Lisbon.

The program will provide eligible households with vouchers that may be redeemed at participating farm markets in Columbiana County during the period of July 1 to Sept 30. Those interested must provide the following information at the time of application: social security number and date of birth for all household members, photo identification for primary applicant, and proof of income for the last 90 days for all household members. Eligibility requirements include the following: household must reside in Columbiana County and have a gross income that does not exceed 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. For example, a one person household must have a gross monthly income below $1,238 and a three person household must be under $2,100. Eligible households may also receive vouchers for back to school shoes for minor children attending preschool through 12th grade during the 2017-18 school year. SCC offering lifeguard training

SALEM–The Salem Community Center will be offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course from 5 to 8 p.m. weeknights June 5 through 16. Cost is $220 for members and $260 for non-members. Upon completion participants will receive Lifeguard Training, First Aid, Professional Rescuer CPR and AED Essentials certifications. for information or to register contact the Salem Community Center at 330-332-5885. Boy Scouts to hold flag ceremony

HANOVERTON – The Boy Scouts will hold a flag ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday at Woodsdale Cemetery on Teegarden Road.
