Salem Schools Community Relations Committee to meet

SALEM — The Salem City Schools Community Relations Committee will meet at 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the Administration Office.

Whiz Bang Science Show set at Lepper Library

LISBON — Lepper Library is concluding its summer reading program with Dr. Dave’s Whiz Bang Science Show at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the library. Prizes will be awarded and all participants will get a new book and a coupon for a free cone from Dairy Queen and a free kid’s meal from Chipotle The top reader will receive a new bike and helmet donated by the Lisbon Police Department Auxiliary. Other prizes will be given to top grade-level readers.

Lisbon Village Council has donated a pool party from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Sadie Van Fossan pool. Any child registered for the summer reading program at the library is eligible to attend. Council is providing hot dogs and the library is providing chips, cookies and beverages though a donation from Lisbon Sparkle. For more information call the library at 330-424-3117.

County Fish and Game Association to host kids day

LISBON — The Columbiana County Fish and Game Association will host Kids Day 2017 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29 at 45716 Middle Beaver Road. Activities include archery, paintball, .22 rifle and pistol target shooting and trapshooting. Equipment for all activities will be provided. No personal firearms will be used. Ages 6 to 17 are invited and must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch and soft drinks will be provided.

North Jackson community-wide yard sales planned

NORTH JACKSON — North Jackson Citizens Association’s community-wide yard sales start at 9 a.m. Aug. 4 and 5. Over 175 addresses are listed on maps locating sales throughout the entire township. Maps will be available at the J.M. Football Field, 10748 Mahoning Ave. and at businesses beginning Aug. 4.

Reptile and Amphibian Show set at MetroParks Farm

CANFIELD — The public is invited to the Reptile and Amphibian Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 at the MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road. Members of the Northern Ohio Association of Herpetologists and Keith Gisser of “Herps Alive” will have their menageries on exhibit. Activities include reptile feedings, a snake treasure hunt, crafts, and more. This free, family-friendly event is sponsored by 21 WFMJ/WBCB. Reunion planned for First National Bank employees

SALEM — Former First National Bank employees and retirees are invited to a picnic reunion which begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 7 at the home of Luanne Cope, 33788 Winona Road. Attendees are reminded to bring a coverdish. The table service and beverages will be provided.

East Cohasset Improvement Project set at MetroParks

YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks is expected to begin the East Cohasset Improvement Project in early August 2017 with a completion date by the end of October. The East Cohasset Bike and Hike Trail in Mill Creek Park (the northerly 1.07 miles of trail, from the Ottawa Entrance to Old Furnace Road) will be closed for public use during construction. The work will consist of various improvements which will improve stormwater drainage and surfacing of the trail, including replacement of drainage pipe and structures, cleaning and repointing stone retaining walls and installation of new asphalt pavement. TheMetroParks secured a federal Transportation Alternatives Program grant for the project which will supply 80 percent of the construction cost. In the event of inclement weather, the work schedule will be delayed and adjusted accordingly.

Resurfacing continues on state Route 11

CANFIELD — State Route 11 between the I-80/I-680 split and U.S. Route 224 has various daily lane restrictions for resurfacing and pavement repairs. This work is part of a $3.8 million project to resurface Route 11 between Route 224 and the I-80/I-680 split. The project also includes bridge repairs. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by August 2018.

Informational fair to be held at Jobs and Family Services

LISBON — Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services (CCDJFS) will host its summer quarterly informational fair featuring 46 county agencies, businesses, charities, etc. The public is welcome from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at CCDJFS, 7989 Dickey Drive Suite II.
